Since the initial concept of the Homeless Care Package Project was forming mid-2015, the goal of the project has been to meet the basic human needs of the unsheltered homeless people in our community. Basic human needs include Food, Water, Warmth, Rest, Security and Safety. With your support for the Winter Project, the unsheltered homeless are given a tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag or blankets, coats, thick socks, beanies, scarves, hand warmers, and gloves (Rest and Warmth). They also receive a small supply of nonperishable Food (protein shakes, peanut butter and crackers, applesauce pouches) and Water. We also provide locks, personal alarms, reflective lights for bicycles, and headlamps (Safety and Security). We even include other items that we can all agree are nice to have such as bandages, first-aid ointment, lip balm, personal wipes, and aspirin.
The 2020 Winter Care Package Project assembly took place at our Vice President, Jay Patel's home in Elk Grove on Saturday, November 14th.
