People need and deserve consistent access to restrooms in order to eliminate waste with privacy and dignity. Further, untreated human waste in the environment is a public health concern. For these reasons, Humanitarian Action Network launched the Porta Potty Project. We currently provide two potties at an encampment in North Sacramento, and one additional potty at the 12th & C Street Safe Ground location, also in North Sacramento.
Did you know that one porta potty that is serviced twice weekly keeps 400 gallons of untreated human waste off the streets and out of the rivers every month? Between the three potties we maintain, approximately 1,600 gallons of untreated human waste is properly disposed of every month. As of November 1, 2020, Humanitarian Action Network has kept 10.900 gallons of untreated human waste out of the environment. To get an idea of what that looks like, an average home swimming pool holds 10,800 gallons.
By supporting the Porta Potty Project, you are helping to restore human dignity, safe guard public health, and improve the environment. The Porta Potty Project is a win-win-win, and it is funded entirely by donations. If you would like to donate specifically to this project, please send a check payable to Humanitarian Action Network, to P.O. Box 246835, Sacramento, CA 95824, and notate "porta potty project" on your gift.
