People need and deserve consistent access to restrooms in order to eliminate waste with privacy and dignity, and untreated human waste in the environment is a public health concern. For these reasons, in January 2020, Humanitarian Action Network launched the Porta Potty Project. We currently provide four porta potties for people experiencing homelessness in Sacramento, and we hope to be able to add more in the future.
Did you know that one porta potty that is serviced twice weekly keeps 400 gallons of untreated human waste off the streets and out of the rivers every month? Between the four potties we provide, approximately 2,000 gallons of untreated human waste is properly disposed of every month. As of March 2021, Humanitarian Action Network's Porta Potty Project has kept 18,100 gallons of untreated human waste out of the environment. To get an idea of what that looks like, an average home swimming pool holds 10,800 gallons.
By supporting the Porta Potty Project, you are helping to restore human dignity, safe guard public health, and improve the environment. The Porta Potty Project is a win-win-win, and it is funded entirely by donations. If you would like to donate specifically to this project, please send a check payable to Humanitarian Action Network, to P.O.
